Dimitri Sotis, Longtime WTOP Anchor, Has Passed Away at Age 55

On Saturday night, Dimitri Sotis was found unresponsive in his home in Alexandria, Virginia. Since joining WTOP in 1999, Sotis was the evening anchor for the radio station. He was 55 years old.


Renowned for his deep, warm voice, Dimitri Sotis was a familiar presence at WTOP, expertly guiding listeners through breaking news, storms, and elections for over two decades. Sotis, originally from Muncie, Indiana, but has called the DC areas home for decades and has never considered living anywhere else, according to his WTOP bio.

WTOP’s Neal Augenstein shared the following on Monday morning, “It is with the utmost sadness and shock that I write this email to let you all know our friend and coworker, Dimitri Sotis, has passed away,” said Joel Oxley, general manager of WTOP and president of Hubbard Radio Washington, D.C., in an email to staff early Sunday.”
