Cafe Shuga Now Open, Showcasing African-Inspired Coffee and Flavors

Cafe Shuga, a new coffee bar specializing in African-inspired flavors, is now open at Solaire Social Food Hall in Silver Spring (8200 Dixon Ave).

Founded by Ndidiamaka Agu, the cafe features single-origin coffees from various African countries, rotating weekly selections, and specialty drinks incorporating ingredients like moringa, baobab, and Milo. The menu will also offer teas and alternative milk options, aiming to highlight African culinary traditions.

Cafe Shuga is the sister-concept to Shuga X Ice, which opened in Solaire last year. Their ice cream is described as “a celebration of the rich, diverse flavors of Africa, bringing a unique dessert experience to the Solaire Social Food Hall.” Some of the flavors featured on ShugaxIce’s instagram account include Gbas Gbos (milk chocolate ice cream with a kick of African peppers), Chin Chin + Cream (coconut cream frozen dessert with chin chin cookie pieces), Tea + Bread (tea flavored ice cream with buttered agege bread pieces), and more.

Cafe Shuga is open weekdays from 7-11am.
