Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a tractor-trailer fire overnight on I-495 WB (Outer Loop) before MD-193 (Exit 29).
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire, which was caused by a mechanical failure/brake issue, involved a truck carrying imported fruits. No injuries were reported.
As of 6am on Tuesday morning, two right lanes remain blocked, while two left lanes are open. Delays extend from the I-95 interchange, and an extended closure is expected.
At 6:43am, a severe traffic alert was sent out stating “Traffic incident closes 2 right lanes Outer Loop I-495 WB before University BLVD (MD-193). Expect significant delays. Seek alternate route.”
