‘Elevated Snow/Sleet Risk’ Next Week; Light Wintry Mix Possible This Weekend

Freezing rain caused some icy conditions in the area overnight– enough to delay schools locally and close neighboring Frederick County. Now, we have two events that remain possibilities in the next week.

Over the weekend we have the possibility of a wintry mix. Light sleet/snow is expected to move into the area during the day on Saturday. Temperatures should be near freezing so there may not be any accumulation on the roads, but the latest map from the National Weather Service (NWS) shows very light ice forecasted for most of the area with pockets of a tenth to a quarter of an inch in northern spots.

Next week looks a little more promising for snow lovers,  though we are still 5/6 days away and things can change drastically. The NWS has included the entire area in the ‘Elevated Risk’ zone for snow and sleet. Right now, it looks like several inches of snow is possible, but that is likely to change a few times before we see something a bit more concrete in a few days. We’ll keep an eye on both events and update you as we get closer.
