School Closing and Early Release Predictions For Tuesday, February 11th

As of 1pm, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for most of the area from 1pm Tuesday until 7am Wednesday. I suspect that later today this will be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning for many nearby areas and a Winter Weather Advisory for areas to the north of us.

The ‘Winter Precip Onset’ map shows that winter precipitation could start in the area between 1pm-3pm, which could be impactful for evening commute. Temperatures will be above freezing when the precipitation starts so it will likely be a couple hours before the snow starts to stick on the roadways– making the decision to close schools early a little difficult.

Pencil Prediction (for an early release): 2 Pencils ✏️✏️ Releasing early can be messy, especially if precipitation has already started to fall. That won’t be the case here, with snow not expected until the late afternoon (which is why it’s not a slam dunk). If the decision to release early is made, I suspect it will be communicated at some point later today. With snow continuing to fall until early Wednesday morning, even the low end of predicted amounts should close schools on Wednesday, but let’s wait one more day for that prediction.
