As we prepare for the Winter Storm Warning to go into effect at 1pm (it lasts until 7am Wednesday morning), the National Weather Service (NWS) has released what’s likely the final update before the start of winter weather in the area.
With snow expected to start anytime between 1pm-3pm, the NWS expects anywhere between 3-5 inches with most of Frederick County and Howard County at 3 inches, and Montgomery County, Loudoun County, DC, Fairfax County, and Prince George’s County at 4-5 inches.
As always, there are boom and bust scenarios with the ‘High End Amount’ map showing up to 7 inches locally and the ‘Low End Amount’ map showing as little as 1 inch locally. If the expected amounts fall, it’s very likely that there will be closures across Maryland and Virginia, with MCPS stating that a decision on Wednesday would be made by 7pm this evening.
