MCDOT to Hold Public Workshop on Takoma-Langley Purple Line Station Sidewalk Project

MCDOT will host a public workshop on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. at Rolling Terrace Elementary School in Takoma Park to discuss and gather feedback on the proposed Takoma-Langley Purple Line Station sidewalk project, which includes new sidewalks on multiple streets to improve pedestrian access.

Per the news release: “On Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold an in-person public information workshop to discuss the proposed Takoma-Langley Purple Line Station sidewalk proposal in Takoma Park. The in-person public workshop will be held in the Cafeteria or All-Purpose Room of the Rolling Terrace Elementary School located at 705 Bayfield Street in Takoma Park. Please register online to attend.

While the Purple Line is a state, Maryland Department of Transportation project, MCDOT is building the sidewalk in this area. The public will have an opportunity to provide comments and ask questions on the proposed sidewalk plans. The proposal provides for the installation of 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalks on the following roadways:

  • The east side of Carroll Avenue from University Boulevard to Merrimac Drive.
  • The east side of Baron Street from Carroll Avenue to Prospect Street.
  • The east side of Glenside Drive from Carroll Avenue to Prospect Street.
  • The west side of Long Branch Parkway from Carroll Avenue to Patterson Court.
  • The east side of Chester Street from Carroll Avenue to Prospect Street.
  • The west side of Prospect Street from 1214 Prospect Street to the Long Branch shared-use path.

At the public workshop, MCDOT will present project details, costs and the project schedule. MCDOT will also obtain public comments and answer questions. Public input is encouraged and may influence the final design of the project.

The public is encouraged to visit the project website and provide feedback via the online comment form or via email to the Sidewalk Program Planning Specialist, Lori Main at [email protected]. Written comments carry the same weight as oral comments expressed at the meeting. All information provided will become a matter of public record.

Interpreter services will be provided upon request with five business days advance notice. To request interpreter services, email Lori Main at [email protected] or call 240-777-7271 no later than Wednesday, Feb. 19.
