National Weather Service Releases First Snowfall Maps For Wednesday

The National Weather Service has released its first set of maps for potential snow on Wednesday and it’s significant different than model outputs you may have seen shared by others last week.

Model runs last night took the storm further off shore, with most of them keeping precipitation to the southeast of the DC Metro area. The NWS ‘Expected Snowfall’ map shows less than an inch for the immediate area with an inch as close as the southern portions of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties.

The ‘High End Amount’ map (10% chance of happening) goes a glimmer of hope to snow lovers, with as much as 7 inches for Montgomery, Loudoun, and Howard counties, and 8 inches for DC, Fairfax, and Prince George’s counties. On the flip side of that is the ‘Low End Amount’ map, which shows no snow for the immediate area.

The runs that will come in late this morning/early this afternoon will show if there’s any shot at the storm shifting closer towards us, but trends have gone the other way all weekend. We’ll continue to monitor and keep you updated on the latest.
