Many of you probably saw some “mood flakes” today that didn’t accumulate and were harmelss in regards to impact on roads. Tomorrow morning may be a little different as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 7am until 11am Thursday for most of the area. FOX5 meteorologist Mike Thomas joins us today for a guest prediction.
Per the NWS, “Snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to one inch. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute. This will likely cause roads to become very slick during a period of high traffic volume. The event will impact the Thursday morning commute, causing roads to once again become slick with surface temperatures into the upper teens to low 20s.”
Mike Thomas: I’ll take 1.5 pencils! ✏️ “Chance of delay, but I think a little better shot at being on time. The timing was the best hope and it looks like the best chance for very light snow looks like tail end to just after the morning rush. If it was going to be more, I’d expect a delay. But since it’s so light and later in the morning, I think they more than likely try to get the kids in. Snow will likely still be a few hours west when they have to make the 5am call!”
MoCoSnow Prediction: 1.5 Pencils sounds about right (rating scale below). Unless there’s a change that either brings the snow to the area sooner or shows more snow than currently expected, it seems likely MCPS can get a full day in on Thursday.
MCPS has shared that they are monitoring the weather and will provide an update to the community by 5am Thursday morning.
