Teachers’ Union Announces Public Search For Next Executive Director

The Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) has announced the public search for its next Executive Director to lead one of the country’s largest teachers’ unions and steer the organization’s vision and mission into the future.

Per MCEA: “MCEA represents 14,000+ teachers and other professional educators in the Montgomery County Public Schools system in suburban Washington D.C. MCEA is one of the 15 largest local educators’ unions in the nation and is an affiliate of the National Education Association. MCEA is a leader in efforts to build a new kind of teachers’ union that responds to the needs of today’s educators.
The Board has approved a search committee to conduct this search which will be chaired by Mr. David Stein, MCEA President. Outgoing Executive Director Heather Carroll-Fisher said, “Working at the Montgomery County Education Association has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have enjoyed the impact of building power for and with Montgomery County educators as we’ve elevated their voices and taken collective action over their working conditions and the future of public education. I am grateful for the MCEA Board’s trust, guidance, and encouragement, which have enabled my growth and the growth of our organization. MCEA is an amazing place to work where dedicated staff and member leaders are building a legacy that can’t be undone.”

The incoming Executive Director will be tasked with providing leadership, vision, and direction to ensure that the Montgomery County Education Association remains at the forefront of promoting the value and importance of public education for children and educators in Montgomery County, Maryland. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a visionary leader to shape discussions around the future of public education.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess a strong background in union management, collective bargaining, and social justice, combined with exceptional leadership and management skills. The next Executive Director will be committed to continuing the building of a powerful, member-led union working to improve the outcomes in public education in Montgomery County and Maryland.
Montgomery County Education Association has engaged with HR Strategy Group, LLC to conduct a search for candidates who are aligned with MCEA’s values and mission.
