Wheaton High School Society of Women Engineers places 3rd at International Competition

The Wheaton High School Society of Women Engineers (SWE) achieved an impressive 3rd place finish out of 38 international teams at the 2025 UAE Electric Vehicle Grand Prix, a team member reported today. This event provided SWE with a valuable opportunity to collaborate with high school teams from four different countries.

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) was established in 2017 at Wheaton High School in Wheaton, Maryland. Its mission is to “empower women to reach their full potential in engineering and leadership careers, enhance the perception of the engineering profession as a positive influence on quality of life, and showcase the importance of diversity.”

According to the SWE website, the group “strives to spread the possibilities of engineering to younger students, especially girls. We are currently working with elementary and middle schools in our community to expose students to STEM-related activities. Some of the activities include building paper bridges, spaghetti and marshmallow towers, straw rockets, science experiments and more. Additionally, bringing our cars to show the kids and teach them how they work.”
