After more than 90 years of serving Ocean City, MD, Alaska Stand on 9th street has announced it will be closing. In a message to the community, the owners expressed gratitude for the memories shared at the 9th Street Boardwalk location and confirmed that Thrasher’s Fries will take over the space.
The restaurant was popular for its burgers, hotdogs, fries, funnel cakes, chocolate covered bananas, and ice cream. While the transition marks the end of an era, they emphasized that the stand’s legacy will remain part of Ocean City’s history.
“A Message from The Alaska Stand Family, Since 1933, The Alaska Stand has proudly been a part of Ocean City, Maryland, serving up fresh burgers, split hotdogs and other delicious food, while making cherished memories, and enjoying a sense of community that transcends generations. It has been our greatest honor to serve “The Purest and the Best”, on the Ocean City Boardwalk, welcoming friends, visitors, and families from near and far for over 90 years.
Today, with heartfelt gratitude and a deep appreciation for the legacy we have built together, we are announcing a new chapter in the story of 9th Street. The Alaska Stand’s story line will come to a close at this time. We are thrilled to share that we have entered into an agreement with another Ocean City icon -Thrashers Fries- they will take the helm at this beloved corner and will be the new face of 9th St!
This transition marks the beginning of a new and exciting page in the history of 9th Street. While this change brings a new face to this location on the boardwalk at 9th Street, the spirit of The Alaska Stand, and the memories created here will forever remain a part of the fabric of this incredible community. To all of you who have supported The Alaska Stand over the years, thank you. You have shared your summers, your stories, and your smiles with us, and we carry those moments in our hearts. While the physical corner may change hands, the legacy we have built together lives on, woven into the vibrant history of Ocean City, Maryland.
We will always remain part of this amazing community as an original iconic establishment, and we look forward to seeing the next chapter unfold as Thrashers Fries takes the reins at 9th Street. Here is to new memories, lasting legacies, and the enduring spirit of Ocean City.
