Growing up in Montgomery County, Maryland, Nicholas Sefcik lived in both Damascus and Gaithersburg, where he laid the foundation for his future as an educator and author culminating in his debut book, For The Win!: It’s spOiler Time. Nicholas attended Woodfield Elementary School, Baker Middle School, and Damascus High School, where he thrived both academically and athletically. A notable athlete, he played basketball and football during high school, earning the honor of winning two State Championships in football.
Following his high school career, Nicholas pursued higher education, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Frostburg State University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Hood College. His experiences on the field and in the classroom have shaped his understanding of important life skills such as dedication, teamwork, communication, and attention to detail. These skills have remained integral to his life, both as a teacher and as a mentor.
With 12 years of teaching experience in Montgomery County, Nicholas has dedicated his career to giving back to the community that played such a significant role in his development. He has taught at Cedar Grove Elementary School, Wilson Wims Elementary School, Fox Chapel Elementary School, and currently serves at Snowden Farm Elementary School in Clarksburg. In addition to his teaching, Nicholas has also run numerous summer basketball camps, sharing his love for the sport with young athletes.
Nicholas’s journey has culminated in his debut book, For The Win!: It’s spOiler Time. In collaboration with his illustrator, Sean Clark, who shares a similar background from Montgomery County, Nicholas aims to inspire young readers through engaging narratives that emphasize the values learned through sports. His writing reflects his commitment to nurturing not just athletic skills, but also essential life skills that empower children to succeed both on and off the field.
