Per Visit MoCo, in 1932, R. Beecher Butts established a boys’ camp in the rural outskirts of Washington, D.C., at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and Democracy Blvd. The camp relocated to Laytonsville, MD, in 1953, evolving into a co-educational residential camp that has remained in its picturesque location ever since. Known as Camp Waredaca (WAshington REcreational DAy CAmp), it has welcomed thousands of campers from the area over the decades.

Gradually, the farm shifted its focus from camping to becoming one of the region’s premier equestrian eventing barns and riding lesson centers. Today, Beecher’s descendants continue to uphold this legacy of fostering connections between children, horses, and family.
