Update: House Fire Causes $3M in Damage, Displaces Family of Seven

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a large single-family house fire on Mary Mead Court in Potomac on Monday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, crews arrived to heavy fire conditions on multiple floors and the roof. A second alarm was called as firefighters worked to control the blaze.

The fire, which originated in the roof/attic, has been ruled accidental, though the investigation is ongoing. Damage is estimated at approximately $3 million. The bulk of the fire was knocked down by around 6:30 p.m., with initial dispatch occurring around 3:30 p.m. The sole occupant at the time self-rescued, and firefighters located and saved some newly acquired chicks inside the home.

One family of seven has been displaced. No injuries were reported.
