Benjamin Banneker Middle School in Burtonsville is buzzing with accomplishments and exciting programs, showcasing the school’s commitment to excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities. The PTSA shared the following news with us:
Academic Success with IXL: The school has made impressive progress in the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) IXL Challenge. Currently ranked 3rd on the IXL leaderboard, Banneker has demonstrated a strong commitment to reinforcing curriculum standards through this digital platform. This achievement is particularly notable given that the school was ranked 18th as recently as January 29th in the county-wide competition, which continues until the end of March.
Expanding Opportunities with Excel Beyond the Bell: Banneker’s dedication to student enrichment is further exemplified by the recent launch of the Excel Beyond the Bell (EBB) program. This initiative provides after-school enrichment activities for approximately 80 students every day. Following the conclusion of winter sports, the school is set to expand the program to accommodate over 100 students daily, offering even more young learners the chance to engage in valuable educational experiences outside of regular school hours.
Athletic Excellence in Boys Basketball: On the athletic front, the Banneker boys basketball team has celebrated a remarkable achievement by completing their third consecutive undefeated season. This impressive feat was accomplished under the leadership of Coach Miller, with the team successfully integrating several new players after last year’s squad was predominantly composed of 8th graders. The team’s success reflects the school’s focus on nurturing talent and fostering teamwork.
