Eater DC recently unveiled its list of the “Best Korean Barbecue Restaurants Around DC,” featuring three establishments from Maryland, including two located in Montgomery County.
Eater writes, “Korean barbecue joints offer a multisensory feast. At restaurants outfitted with tabletop grills, staff members crank up the fire and swap out grates in front of diners to cook various cuts of meat often marinated in sweet and spicy sauces.” The following Maryland restaurants can be found on the list:
Chadol Korean BBQ (Rockville): Chadol opened at 1403 Research Blvd, Suite A-8 in Rockville’s Research Row back in February of 2022. The restaurant offers a more high end Korean barbecue experience. Eater writes, “Chadol, Rockville’s polished destination for tabletop grilling of premium beef, pork, seafoods since 2022, runs an all-you-can-eat deal for lunch ($29.24) and dinner ($39.62).”
Hwa Gae Jang Tuh (Rockville): HGJT is one of the original Korean barbecue restaurants Montgomery County, located at 2104 Veirs Mill Rd. in Rockville’s Twinbrook Center. Eater writes, “Rockville’s Hwa Gae Jang Tuh offers tabletop grilling for meats like bulgogi, marinated short ribs or galbi, and pork belly. The menu includes dishes like japchae (sweet potato noodles) and mandu (dumplings), too.”
MeatUp Korean BBQ & Bar (College Park): Formerly Kangnam Barbeque, the restaurant has been transformed into a vibrant space adorned with neon lights and a late-night aesthetic, thanks to Lawrence Chen, owner of Momo’s Cafe in Palisades. The menu retains traditional Korean barbecue favorites, such as pork cheek, beef tongue, galbi, and Angus steak. Eater shares that the restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat option priced at $21.99 for weekday lunch and $33.99 for dinner and weekends.
