Park Police Statement on Human Remains Found in Rock Creek Regional Park

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police Montgomery County Division have issued a statement after the Montgomery County Police Department announced that human remains were discovered in Rock Creek Regional Park on March 1, 2025. While the exact location of the remains is not being disclosed to protect the investigation, authorities assure the public that there is no immediate safety threat and encourage park visitors to continue their activities as usual.

Per Park Police: “On March 1, 2025, human remains, including a skull and bones, were discovered in the woods of Rock Creek Regional Park. The Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death and has appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the individual. A release issued on March 12, 2025, seeks information regarding the remains.

There have been questions regarding the location of the remains. Because this is an ongoing investigation, that information is not being released to preserve the integrity of the area.

We understand the public’s concern regarding the case; however, we are unable to comment further on the ongoing investigation being handled by another jurisdiction. We want to reassure the community that there is no information at this time that suggests any immediate danger to public safety.

Additionally, our Park Police officers regularly patrol the parks, both in vehicles and on foot, as well as on motorcycles, ATVs, and horseback.
