Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports and famous for his “One Bite” pizza reviews, visited Frank’s Pizza & Pasta at 6620 Belair Rd in Baltimore earlier this year to sample their offerings. Since his visit, customers have been lining up down the block before the restaurant opens, eager to savor the pizza and cheesesteak that Portnoy rated so highly.
Utilizing his 1-10 rating system, Dave Portnoy awarded Frank’s New York-style cheese pizza an impressive score of 8.3 and rated their cheesesteak even higher, giving it a remarkable 9.0. Established in 1985, Frank’s was recognized as Baltimore’s Best Pizza in both 2023 and 2024 by Baltimore Magazine and The Baltimore Sun. The 8.3 rating is the highest for any pizza in Maryland and ranks among the top 73 of all pizzas reviewed by Portnoy. For context, the average “One Bite” pizza rating stands at 6.8, with over 1,000 pizzas reviewed since 2013.
A family restaurant since 1985, brothers Gerry and Daniel purchased Frank’s from their parents during the pandemic and have infused their own ideas into the menu. It features New York and Detroit-style pizzas, pastas, calzones, stromboli, and subs. The popular cheesesteaks can be served “Philly style” with hand slice ribeye and Cooper Sharp American cheese or you can add lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and other toppings to make it “Baltimore style.”
Since Portnoy’s visit, Frank’s has seen lines extending down the block within the shopping center, with customers patiently waiting for a chance to enjoy the highly regarded pizza and cheesesteaks.
