Extensive Renovations Planned For Landmark’s Bethesda Row Cinemas

According to a Deadline report, Landmark Theatres is making significant strides with extensive renovations planned for three of its premier locations, including its sole Montgomery County, MD site– Bethesda Row Cinemas (7235 Woodmont Avenue). Additionally, President Kevin Holloway has been elevated to the position of chief executive.

As part of the upcoming renovations, the Bethesda Row theater will feature a new LED marquee, a lobby design inspired by historical aesthetics, upgraded auditoriums with luxury recliner seating, a newly designed gaming area, and enhanced concessions and bar offerings.

The underground theater opened on May 3, 2002, as part of a new 140,000 square foot midrise building. A vintage-style vertical sign illuminates the night, and the venue includes eight auditoriums with a total of 1,600 seats.

This marked Landmark’s 54th theater opening in the United States. According to a Washington Post report on September 16, 2002, the Bethesda Row Cinema was outperforming all other locations in the Landmark chain, attracting a remarkable number of customers. In 2004, Landmark expanded its presence in the region by opening its second multiplex, the E Street, in downtown Washington, DC. That location closed to the public earlier this month after 21 years of service.

The Bethesda Row Cinema underwent a month-long closure for remodeling starting March 29, 2013, and was also closed for 17 months from March 2020 until August 2021 due to the pandemic.
