The City of Gaithersburg is Celebrating Arab Heritage Month in April; Proclamation Will Be Presented on April 7

The City of Gaithersburg is celebrating and honoring Arab American Heritage Month in April with programs and a proclamation highlighting the culture, heritage, and achievements of our Arab American neighbors.

The City of Gaithersburg shared that the official proclamation designating April 2025 as Arab American Heritage Month in the City of Gaithersburg will be presented at the Mayor and City Council meeting on Monday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend in person at 16 South Summit Avenue, watch live on YouTube, or join via Zoom by registering here.

Per the City of Gaithersburg, Dr. Wafa Hozien will accept the proclamation. With more than 30 years of experience in education, Dr. Hozien is a passionate advocate for underrepresented communities—especially Arab American students—promoting cultural awareness and developing curricula on Middle Eastern history. She holds a Ph.D. in Education Leadership, is the author of Strategies and Insights for Women Leaders in Higher Education, and is a recipient of Michigan’s Multicultural Educator Award. As principal at the Islamic Center of Maryland Academy, Dr. Hozien continues to champion Arab American heritage and strengthen community ties.
