Officers Make Multiple Arrests, Recover Illegal Firearm in Downtown Silver Spring

On Friday, MCPD 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos announced that officers in downtown Silver Spring arrested multiple theft suspects and recovered an illegal firearm with an obliterated serial number in separate incidents over the past 24 hours.

Cokinos wrote, “patrol officers in downtown Silver Spring have been busy catching thieves and getting an illegal gun off the street during the last 24 hours:

-Traffic stop, driver had a gun in his waistband, tried to flee on foot but Is quickly captured by officers. Serial number on the handgun was obliterated 😳
-2 thieves load up merchandise from a CVS. Officers quickly arrive and both go running in different directions… both caught! One subject also had an active warrant.
-Thief enters Safeway loading up merchandise to steal. Officers waiting outside & the guy tries unsuccessfully to flee on foot.
-Thief hits 2 stores stealing from Ellsworth Place Mall, officers spot him & he tried to change jackets to hide and flee. Caught! Subject also had an active warrant.
