Father Sentenced to 14 Years for Abusing Five-Month-Old Baby

Oliver Hernandez-Caballero, 26, of Damascus, was sentenced to 25 years in prison, suspending all but 14 years, plus five years of supervised probation, following his conviction for first-degree child abuse of his five-month-old baby.

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “On February 25, 2025, Hernandez-Caballero was convicted by a jury on one count of first-degree child abuse. He was arrested on January 9, 2024, following an investigation by Montgomery County Police. On December 28, 2023, the defendant called 911 because his infant was having trouble breathing and possible seizures. The child survived but was hospitalized for one month with seizure activity. Doctors described the baby’s injuries to include a skull fracture, brain hemorrhages, retinal hemorrhages, lacerations to internal organs, internal bleeding, rib fractures in various stages of healing, and bruising to the body. The investigation determined that the defendant shook and punched the five-month-old prior to calling 911.

Assistant State’s Attorneys Jodie Mount and Frank Lazzaro prosecuted this case.”
