A Silver Spring resident is $50,000 richer after purchasing a winning Monopoly scratch-off ticket from a North Bethesda 7-Eleven. Full story below courtesy MD Lottery:

“A Maryland Lottery winner from Silver Spring considers himself blessed after having won $50,000 on the $10 scratch-off game MONOPOLY™ X50, and his plan is to pay that blessing forward by giving away most of his winnings.

“I have a few people in mind to bless. I’m attentive to their season,” the winner said April 10 after claiming his windfall at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, adding, “It is better to give than receive.”

All the same, winning proved to be a nearly unbelievable experience. The winner stopped at the 7-Eleven at 11421 Rockville Pike in Rockville on a recent morning for some refreshments for the day – two bottles of water. He had $10 left in his pocket and decided to play the Lottery, which he does on occasion. Initially he pondered, “Should I spend it on one ticket or spread it over more?” He went with the single ticket and scratched it off in the store.

He had the number 11 in his Winning Numbers and that matched an 11 in the play area over the figure $50,000, but he struggled initially to believe his good fortune. Was it only $50? Or maybe $500? He asked the clerk to double check and got confirmation of the big win.

“I had two bottles of Perrier and I was shaking,” he recalls.

He made arrangements to be accompanied to Lottery headquarters by someone providing security, and dressed incognito, a departure from his typical style. Still, he remained unconvinced of his win until after he had the paperwork in hand. That’s when he said, “This is real!”
