According to a report by FOX 5, a Potomac Elementary School student was found with a list of individuals “they thought should be harmed” on Tuesday, April 8, prompting an immediate investigation by school officials, Montgomery County Police, and MCPS security staff.
Potomac Elementary School Principal Nadia Kline-Taylor issued the following message to students and families on Tuesday, April 8:
Dear Potomac Elementary Families,
I am writing to share with you information regarding a concerning incident at our school today. This morning, I was made aware that a student had a page in their notebook that they had shown to
multiple students, listing people that they thought should be harmed. We immediately investigated the matter, involved Montgomery County law enforcement and contacted MCPS security staff. All MCPS protocols were followed, resources to support our students will be deployed, and the Student Code of Conduct will be followed.
I want to take this time to remind us that safety and security is a collective responsibility. In that vein, I want to thank the students and parents for doing their due diligence and bringing this information forward.
I also want to acknowledge our police and MCPS security partners for responding swiftly to ensure the safety of all community members.
We understand that this news may be unsettling. We want to assure you that we are taking all necessary steps to address the situation and are committed to providing you with transparent and
timely updates as appropriate. Additionally, our central office partners in pupil personnel services will be available along with our school counselor to meet with students who may need or
request a trusted adult for support and reassurance.
We encourage all students and parents to continue to report any concerns about safety to a trusted adult at school. The staff and I care deeply for our students and this community and are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for all. I am proud to serve as your principal and am most appreciative of your care, support and collaboration. Please contact me if you or your student has questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Nadia Kline-Taylor
Principal”
