Chicago-Style Pizza Maker Giordano’s to Open DC Restaurant

According to a report by the Washington Business Journal, Giordano’s, the Chicago-style pizza maker has signed on for its first DMV location at 600 14th St. NW. The establishment will occupy a roughly 7,000 SF space near Metro Center that’s been vacant since December 2023, when Todd English relocated his MXDC Cocina Mexicana to 1610 14th St. NW.

Giordano’s is a popular American pizzeria chain that was founded in Chicago, Illinois, in February 1974 by brothers Efren and Joseph Boglio. The brothers brought their mother’s “Italian Easter Pie” recipe from their hometown near Torino, Italy, and transformed it into the now-famous Chicago-style stuffed pizza. This signature dish features a deep-dish crust filled with cheese and other toppings, covered by a second, thinner layer of dough, and topped with tomato sauce.

Starting with its original location on Chicago’s historic south side, Giordano’s has steadily expanded its presence. Today, the chain boasts over 70 locations across several states, including Illinois, Florida, Indiana, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Nevada, and Wisconsin.

The Washington Business Journal reports that Hamilton Square will be a flagship location for the chain, which may branch out to other sites in D.C. and the larger region over time. But for now, it’s focused on launching its first location. An opening timeframe is not yet available.

Beyond their signature stuffed pizza, Giordano’s also offers a variety of other Italian-American dishes, such as thin-crust pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. They also provide catering services and the option to ship their frozen pizzas nationwide.
