In just over a month from now, an area of downtown Wheaton will be transformed into an awesome public gathering space for Wheels in Wheaton, Montgomery Planning’s first Wheaton Placemaking Initiative activation.
“Bring your friends and families on May 31 and June 1 to enjoy roller skating, skateboarding, family-friendly activities and entertainment, as well as a variety of food and drink. You’ll find us directly behind our M-NCPPC Headquarters building in Parking Lot 13 located at 11219 Grandview Avenue. What to expect:
Saturday, May 31, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Stop by and enjoy the new temporary public space! Roller skating, skateboarding, and the beer garden will be open. Support local businesses by grabbing food from a nearby restaurant, and you can then use our eatery space to sit and enjoy the warm weather.
Sunday, June 1, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.: While visiting the Taste of Wheaton, stop by to relax at the beer garden, roller skate, or simply hang out!
Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy:
- Roller skating – with free rentals!
- Skateboarding demonstrations and small group instruction with GOATS on Wheels.
- Games and activities.
- A beer garden featuring Saints Row Brewing.
- Arts and crafts for all ages.
- A temporary mural for the weekend.
- … and more!
Visit the Wheaton Placemaking Initiative website for more details on Wheels in Wheaton activities and logistics. Please feel free to share any of this information with your neighbors, communities, and networks, and encourage them to sign up for the Wheaton e-newsletter. Help us roll!
We need volunteers for:
- Skate check-out
- Beer garden cleanup crew
- Set up and teardown crew
Come for a shift, stay for the vibes. Great for high school students (SSL hours available), community groups, and anyone who loves Wheaton!”
