‘Olney Days’ Takes Place Friday-Sunday (May 2-4)

Olney Days will take place this weekend, May 2-4. The Party in the Park event will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 3 pm to 9 pm at the Olney Manor Recreational Park, located at 16601 Georgia Ave in Olney. The event will take place rain or shine, with tents provided. Schedule for this weekend below:

Ride Towards Hope

MasonStrong Village is honored to carry on Joe’s Ride’s annual tradition with a 10k Family Ride, 5k Run/Walk and children’s Bike Rodeo. Join us for an inspirational morning to remember our heroes and raise critical support for our little warriors courageously fighting childhood cancer.  Proceeds from the ride, walk or run benefit organizations providing essential resources to affected children and their families.    Paper shred – 3 boxes or 3 large bags of paper. No newspapers​.

   Household Donations – Project B Green will accept household donations include clothing, shoes, hand bags, housewares, toys, bed & bath, media, holiday decorations, kitchenware, small electronics (working), sporting goods, books, small furniture (no larger than 4ft by 4 ft).

   Lightbulb Exchange – The Department of Environmental Protection will be there to swap out your old incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs for energy efficiency LED bulbs. Feel free to bring as many lightbulbs as you have and receive up to 3 LEDs per person.

  Electronic Recycling – Montgomery County will accept activity fitness trackers, alarm clocks, audio equipment, cable/satellite boxes, cables, calculators, circuit boards, computers and related items (CRT and flatscreen monitors, keyboards, flash drives, modems), copiers, digital cameras, drones, small handheld electric tools, radios, remote controls, stereos, cell phones, empty toner cartridges, video game consoles and controllers. For a complete list of accepted itemsclick here to go to the county’s electronics recycling page.

Terracycling – Green Olney will be collecting hard to recycle things that cannot be placed in the household blue bins picked up by the county.  These things include:  Crayons, pens, pencils (wood and mechanical), markers, toothpaste tubes with caps, toothbrushes, floss containers and the packaging it comes in, disposable razors, blades, and the packaging it comes in, socks, Brita brand filters, pitchers, and the packaging it comes in, beauty and skincare bottles, tubes, caps, mascara tubes and wands, jars, compacts, contact lens cases, single use eye-drop vials, contact solution bottles and caps. Time to get creative. Build a boat that can hold 2 PEOPLE using only clean cardboard and duct tape. Bring your completed boat to the Olney Swim Center at noon to add any final touches and to check in. Google cardboard boat races for ideas. Awards will be given for Fastest Boat, Best Design, Team Spirit, and even Most Spectacular Sinking.  All are welcome to watch but you must pre-register to race.  Click here to register.

  • Food Trucks – lots of choices
  • Fireworks (at dark, about 8:30 pm) from Zambelli Fireworks.  For everyone’s safety, please no driving during the fireworks.

Bikes for the World
Oakdale Church (3425 Emory Church Rd) 
Donated bikes will be prepared to ship to a specific village in Sierra Leone. This village suffered tremendous losses from an Ebola outbreak right before COVID hit. This orphaned many children who are now teens and young adults. They want to work but cannot get a job without transportation. Your donated bike will make a HUGE difference in the lives of these young people who have lost so much. In addition to donated bikes, cash donations are needed in order to pay the $7,000 for shipping the container to them.  Click here to make a donation.
