The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization, released ‘patient safety’ grades for all Maryland hospitals. Below is a list of the hospitals that earned A’s in Maryland along with their cities (two in Montgomery County):

• Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center – Annapolis, MD
• Meritus Medical Center – Hagerstown, MD
• TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, Inc. – Salisbury, MD
• University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center – Towson, MD
• Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center – Fort Washington, MD
• Atlantic General Hospital – Berlin, MD
• ChristianaCare – Union Hospital – Elkton, MD
• MedStar Harbor Hospital – Baltimore, MD
• MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital – Leonardtown, MD
• University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center – La Plata, MD
• UPMC Western Maryland – Cumberland, MD
• Walter Reed National Military Medical Center – Bethesda, MD

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
