Butler’s Orchard Celebrates 75th Anniversary

This year, Butler’s Orchard (22222 Davis Mill Rd.), a family-owned farm in Germantown, Maryland, is celebrating its 75th anniversary of “being the source for farm-fresh produce, memorable family experiences, and sustainable farming in the heart of Montgomery County.”

Since its founding in 1950 by George & Shirley Butler, Butler’s Orchard has grown from a small, 37-acre peach farm into a 300-acre Pick Your Own regional destination known for its high-quality fruits, vegetables and seasonal events. To mark this incredible milestone, Butler’s Orchard is hosting an Anniversary Celebration June 7th & 8th at the Farm. In addition to this event, the festivities will continue throughout the year with the unveiling of a new Farm Park addition, Farm Market specials & sales, themed menu items at the Farmer’s Porch Kitchen, release of new customer merchandise, and more.

“We are deeply proud of the legacy we’ve built over the past 75 years,” said Wade Butler, current owner of Butler’s Orchard. “Our mission has always been to provide our community with fresh, locally grown produce, but equally important is creating a space where families can enjoy the beauty of the land by providing a family-friendly experience that is just good, green fun! We are grateful for the support of our loyal customers, and we’re excited to celebrate this special year with them.”

About Butler’s Orchard: “In 1950, shortly after graduating college, George & Shirley Butler purchased 37 acres of land with a log house in the heart of Montgomery County, MD. Initially, they grew 25 acres of peaches and sold them to a local grocery store & at their own small farm market, while raising their family. In addition to living & working on the family farm with their parents, three of George & Shirley’s four children earned horticultural degrees from the University of Maryland. George & Shirley passed away in 2000 and 2021, respectively, but the 2nd generation remained committed to growing the business and expanding the crops & activities available at Butler’s Orchard, and their impacts continue to be visible today. The Pumpkin Festival (now our most popular event on its 45th year) began as a project of Todd’s, who passed away in 2010. Susan, who passed in 2022, was devoted to fostering personal connection & providing supreme customer service, both of which are integral components of the “Butler Way.” Wade is the current owner and runs the business alongside his three children, the 3rdgeneration: Hallie, Tyler & Ben. Compared to the initial crop of peaches on 37 acres, the farm now produces more than 25 varieties of fruits, vegetables, flowers & trees on over 300 acres and hosts thousands of visitors for Pick Your Own & Farm Events each year. The Butler Family, while raising the 4thgeneration of family farmers, remains dedicated to growing the business & providing an exceptional experience full of fresh produce & good, green fun!”
