Gaithersburg High School Hosts Inclusive “Under the Sea” ALO Prom

MCPS recently shared the news of Gaithersburg High School hosting the Alternative Learning Outcomes (ALO) prom on Friday, May 9, for students from Albert Einstein, Sherwood, Springbrook, Wheaton, and Watkins Mill high schools.

The venue was decorated with handmade items that emphasized an “Under the Sea” theme. Students, staff, and parents attended the event, which featured music and dancing. The gym was transformed with decorations including bubbles and sea creatures, reflecting the theme for the evening.

The event was the result of a collaborative effort between students, parents, and faculty, with contributions from resource teacher Sarah McKinley and Student Government Association President Nilda Keres.

According to Keres, the ALO prom was founded in 2018 to provide an opportunity for students with special needs to enjoy a prom experience tailored to their needs. The prom provides a space for students to engage in a social event designed to be inclusive and supportive. View more pictures of the event here.
