Pedestrian Struck and Killed By Driver Wednesday Morning

A pedestrian was struck and killed this morning on Watkins Mill Rd, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

At 6:03 a.m., MCPD issued a traffic advisory reporting that Watkins Mill Rd was closed in both directions from NB 355 to I‑270 following a pedestrian being struck. Motorists were advised to expect delays and find alternate routes.

Shortly after, at 6:46 a.m., MCPD confirmed the incident as a fatal collision, adding that the driver involved remained at the scene while the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) was en route. Authorities stressed that Watkins Mill Rd remains closed in both directions between NB 355 and I‑270, urging drivers to plan for delays and minimize travel in the affected area.

The following is a brief summary of events regarding a fatal pedestrian collision in Gaithersburg this morning.
At approximately 5:31 a.m., Montgomery County Police and Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to the area of Watkins Mill Road and Route 355 for a report of a pedestrian struck.
Preliminarily, an adult male was crossing Watkins Mill Road when he was struck by a silver 2018 Toyota Camry traveling eastbound.
The driver remained at the scene and attempted life-saving aid on the adult male until first responders arrived. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the location.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this fatality. A news release will be distributed once more details are available, including the name of the decedent, following proper notification of next of kin.
