Rockville High School Teacher Krista McKim is Headed to Antarctica This Fall Following Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Selection

MCPS recently announced that Krista McKim, a National Board Certified English and journalism teacher at Rockville High School, has been selected as a 2025 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow. In partnership with Lindblad Expeditions and the National Geographic Society, this prestigious fellowship honors educators dedicated to nurturing the next generation of planetary stewards.

According to MCPS, McKim is one of only 35 educators chosen from across the U.S. and Canada for this honor. As part of the fellowship, she will embark on an expedition to Antarctica from November 17-28. This immersive, field-based experience will deepen her geographic knowledge and equip her with insights to enrich her classroom and professional network.

Fellows leverage their experiences to transform their teaching, engage colleagues, and heighten geographic awareness in their communities. In addition, they commit two years to supporting National Geographic’s education initiatives, which may include conducting webinars, co-designing resources, and mentoring other educators.

A strong advocate for project-based learning, McKim empowers her students to develop their written and visual storytelling skills to effectively advocate for themselves and their communities. She also holds the titles of Master Oratory Fellow from Ford’s Theatre and Master Journalism Educator from the Journalism Education Association.
