Report: Grand Opening Set for Virginia’s First Buc-ee’s

Virginia’s first Buc-ee’s will open next month in Rockingham County, VA (Mount Crawford). The store will be located at the exit 240 interchange along Interstate 81 (located near Harrisonburg, VA)- over 125 miles and about two hours from most parts of Montgomery County. We’ve previously reported that the Texas-based company has been aiming for a June 30th opening and now FOX Business reports that the store will hold a grand opening on that date.

An additional Virginia Buc-ee’s in New Kent County was previously announced in 2023, but has been postponed to 2027. Buc-ee’s plans to have four total Virginia locations in the coming years with many readers hoping a move to Maryland will be next. Contrary to speculative reports published on news apps about a Buc-ee’s location coming to the I-81 corridor near Hagerstown in Maryland, that is not currently in the plans for Buc-ee’s.

According to the company, “Buc-ee’s Rockingham County will occupy 74,000 square feet and offer 120 fueling positions. Buc-ee’s favorites including Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries will all be available. Visitors will find thousands of snack, meal and drink options, as well as the same award-winning restrooms, cheap gas, quality products and excellent service that have won the hearts, trust and business of millions in the South for over 40 years.”

Buc-ee’s, however, is moving ahead with plans to build an additional Virginia location in Stafford County– considered to be in the Northern Virginia region (though some say on the outskirts), roughly 52 miles from Bethesda, MD.

According to Potomac Local, the company has submitted formal requests to rezone nearly 35 acres of land, paving the way for a massive fuel and retail complex off I-95. The proposed Buc-ee’s would be situated near the intersection of Courthouse Road (Route 630) and Austin Ridge Drive, just east of I-95 Exit 140. The plans submitted to the county include a 74,000-square-foot convenience store and gas station featuring 120 fuel pumps and 24 future EV charging stations.
