Updated to include letter sent to the community
A major pipe burst at Gaithersburg High School has forced the closure of the special education hallway and approximately 20 classrooms as of Tuesday morning, according to a school source (video below).
As of 9am, the school was managing regular instruction while repair and cleanup crews worked to fix the pipe and address the damage. Numerous pieces of equipment and furniture– including electronics such as computers– were affected in the impacted areas.
The following letter was sent to the community regarding the water leak:
Dear Gaithersburg High School Community,
Early this morning, at approximately 6:00 a.m., administration was notified of a water leak that has impacted several classrooms. The water leak has been stopped, however there are areas of the building that have been impacted by the water. MCPS staff and contractors, along with building service are working on the clean up and repairs to ensure the classrooms are operable as quickly as possible.
We have closed the impacted classrooms for the day and reassigned students to other classrooms. There are signs posted throughout the school to direct students on where they should be.
We will keep you updated on the status of the water leak and clean up.
Thank you for your patience. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at [email protected] or 301-285-4500.
Sincerely,
Brittany Love-Campbell
Principal
