Franklins Brewery, Restaurant, General Store, Ice Cream Shop and Toy Store offers a unique blend of services in Hyattsville, MD– just a few miles across the county lines. At its core, Franklins is a brewpub with an in-house brewery that produces a range of craft beers– from IPAs to stouts–many available only on tap.
Inside, the general store features local Maryland products, gourmet foods, unique gifts, and everyday necessities. Shelves are stocked with a mix of items that encourage browsing and discovery. An in-store ice cream parlor serves homemade ice cream in a variety of classic and innovative flavors, often accompanied by the aroma of freshly made waffle cones. Additionally, a dedicated toy section offers classic toys, games, and novelties that appeal to both children and adults.
Franklins shares, “When you walk through Franklins doors, you’re not just entering a restaurant and store—you’re stepping into a piece of Hyattsville history that’s been thoughtfully reimagined.” Per Franklins: In 1992, Mike & Debra Franklin purchased the former Hyattsville Hardware Co, a local institution located on a dying strip of Route 1. The couple opened Franklins General Store & Deli to recapture the spirit of bustling community activity. The deli soon became a popular lunch spot and eventually outgrew its limited space.
In 2002, Franklins closed the deli portion of the store to open a 200-seat brewpub and double the size of the general store and has continued to evolve with its transformed outdoor spaces, ice cream shop, and award-winning brewery. Franklins has combined these elements under one roof, providing a place to enjoy a locally brewed beer, pick up artisanal foods, savor an ice cream treat, or select a unique gift– all in one visit.
Eater DC recently named Franklins one of its “Best Breweries Around DC” in a list that included four Maryland breweries. Franklins is open 11am – 9pm every day and the restaurant stays open until 10pm Wednesday and Thursday, and ‘til 11pm Friday and Saturday.
