Cpl. Ayala also played a vital role in strengthening community-police relations. His proactive outreach efforts and deep commitment to building trust have helped foster positive relationships. His efforts have not only made a measurable impact on community safety but have also encouraged collaboration and open dialogue between residents and law enforcement.
One of Cpl. We are proud to recognize Detective Corporal Victor Argueta and Detective Private First Class Janelle Lane as our 2024 Investigators of the Year for their extraordinary commitment, investigative excellence, and tireless dedication to the Takoma Park Police Department and the community we serve.
In a year marked by staffing shortages and increased caseloads, both detectives rose to the occasion with remarkable professionalism and resolve. Despite the challenging circumstances, they balanced a heavy load of criminal investigations while also conducting time-consuming and complex applicant background investigations—tasks that were critical to the continued strength of our department.
Detective Corporal Victor Argueta
Detective Corporal Argueta successfully closed 15 major criminal cases, including robberies, carjackings, assaults, and child abuse cases. His efforts resulted in one on-view arrest, nine arrest warrants, and two executed search warrants. Notably, he also completed nine applicant background investigations, contributing directly to our recruitment efforts.
Detective Private First Class Janelle Lane
Detective Private First Class Lane managed an equally demanding caseload, including sensitive investigations involving sexual assault, rape, and violent crimes—many of which required not only investigative precision but also deep compassion and professionalism. She successfully conducted 19 applicant background investigations, ranging from police officers to dispatchers and crossing guards. She also played a key role in applicant testing, oral boards, and neighborhood canvassing.
In addition to her remarkable investigative contributions, Det. Pfc. Lane pursued and earned her Master’s degree during this time—an achievement that exemplifies her dedication to professional growth and excellence. Her ability to balance rigorous academic studies with an already demanding workload reflects her extraordinary work ethic and resilience.
Together, Det. Cpl. Argueta and Det. Pfc. Lane have been instrumental in maintaining the high standards of our Criminal Investigations Division during a particularly demanding year. Their teamwork, determination, and leadership have not only elevated our department but have also had a lasting impact on the lives of countless victims and community members.

Ms. Demetrice White

We are honored to announce that Ms. Demetrice White has been named the 2024 Civilian of the Year for the Takoma Park Police Department. This recognition is a tribute to her outstanding dedication, professionalism, and exceptional service to both the department and the community we serve.
Ms. White plays a critical behind-the-scenes role in keeping the department running smoothly. She manages a wide array of responsibilities—including payroll processing, procurement, payment reimbursements, parking citation payments, front desk support, and the coordination of our school crossing guards. She is also a constant source of support for our officers and administrative staff, responding to inquiries and requests with unwavering professionalism, patience, and good humor.
Following the departure of a fellow administrative team member, Ms. White voluntarily took on significant additional duties—without hesitation or complaint. Despite an already demanding workload, she continued to perform her tasks with remarkable precision and efficiency. Ask anyone who works with Ms. White, and you’ll hear the same thing: she is incredibly dependable, always helpful, and genuinely kind. Whether it’s solving last-minute payroll issues, coordinating urgent procurement needs, or simply greeting someone with a smile at the front desk, she does it all with a level of commitment that uplifts everyone around her.
Ms. White is not only the backbone of many of our internal operations—she is also a trusted and respected colleague whose work directly impacts the morale and effectiveness of our entire department.
