Six Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students have been awarded National Merit college-sponsored scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), bringing this year’s total to 40 MCPS Merit scholars.
Sponsoring colleges and universities select scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. These scholarships offer annual awards ranging from $500 to $2,000, renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.
Established in 1955, the NMSC honors academically talented students and promotes excellence at all levels of education. This year’s MCPS recipients of National Merit college-sponsored scholarships are:

Tyler X. Song, University of Maryland
– Walter Johnson High School:
Eleanor E. Miller, Macalester College
– Richard Montgomery High School:
David Sy, University of Maryland

Swarnabh S. Maharjan, University of Texas at Dallas
– Thomas S. Wootton High School:
Kevin Luo, Vanderbilt University
