The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Tornado Watch for several Maryland counties, including Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Washington counties. The watch remains in effect until 10pm Sunday night and extends into Virginia.
On Sunday morning, the NWS shared the following information: “Multiple rounds of scattered severe storms look to push across the region this aft/eve (between 2-9pm). The primary threat with storms will be damaging winds & locally heavy rainfall. An isolated tornado or two is possible mainly south & east of DC.”
Per the NWS: “Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening, with the greatest risk near and south of US Route 50. The primary threat is damaging wind gusts, but large hail and a tornado or two are also possible. In addition, locally heavy rainfall may lead to isolated instances of flash flooding of small streams and urban/poor drainage areas, with the greatest risk south of Baltimore.”
