On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at approximately 9:18 pm, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) received a 911 call from a mother reporting that her 8-year-old autistic daughter was missing from their home. MCPD shared the story of community members and 5th District officers safely locating the young girl.
While officers from the 5th District were initially searching the area, several Good Samaritans reported seeing the child running through traffic near Middlebrook Road and Frederick Road in Germantown. Based on these reports, Officer McClellan and other responding officers rushed to the location. They arrived in time to safely rescue the child just before she entered the roadway, reuniting her with her mother shortly after.
MCPD noted that officers, in collaboration with community members, locate between three to eight individuals on the autism spectrum in potentially dangerous locations each week. They urge anyone who believes a loved one may be missing to report it immediately, emphasizing that every second counts. Further information on the department’s Autism/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and Alzheimer’s and Dementia Outreach Unit is available on their official website.
