Scott Goldberg Launches Campaign for Montgomery County Council At-Large Seat

Democrat Scott Goldberg has launched his campaign for one of four At-Large seats on the Montgomery County Council, highlighting priorities such as education, housing, and economic opportunity, and drawing on his background as a small business owner, attorney, substitute teacher, and community leader.

Per the news release: “Scott Goldberg kicked off his campaign for 1 of the 4 At Large seats on the Montgomery County Council with over 100 supporters at the Silver Branch Brewery in Silver Spring. He was introduced by Gaithersburg Council Member Yamil Hernandez, Board of Education Member Rita Montoya, long time family friend Cat Valcourt-Pearce who messaged the audience using American Sign Language, and finally by his wife, Dara Goldberg.

“If we’re not an affordable place to live, we cannot say we’re inclusive. The saddest moment I ever had on a campaign was when a Democratic voter with a perfect voting history said ‘teachers don’t need to be able to live in Silver Spring. ‘ Teachers should be able to afford to live wherever they want. Full stop,” said Goldberg.

If elected to the Council, Goldberg will focus on giving students and teachers the resources to have the best school system in the world, increasing housing options so people can grow up, stay, move back or age in place in the county, and creating an ecosystem to grow a vibrant economy so workers can get to and through the middle class.

Professionally, Scott founded a small business funded by waiting tables at the Austin Grill that grew to employing 20 people. He is also an attorney, having gone to law school at night. After his son’s class missed a day of instruction when their teacher was ill and no alternate instructor could be found, Scott signed up to be a substitute teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools.
Active in the community, he serves on the Boards of Directors for the Montgomery Parks Foundation, YMCA of Silver Spring, Mont. Co. Workforce Development, and the Bethesda Chamber of

Commerce. He was previously the Chair of the Montgomery County Democratic Party and Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Maryland School of Law.

Scott lives in Silver Spring with his wife, 2 kids, 2 rescue cats and enjoys playing poker, camping and watching the Terps.
