Vibrant New Murals Signal Transformation of ‘The Square’ in Rockville

Last month marked a significant milestone for one of Rockville’s most iconic public spaces, as it embarked on a journey of transformation and renewal. Formerly known as Rockville Town Square, the area has been reimagined as “The Square,” a vibrant cultural hub and inclusive gathering place for the community.

This transformation was brought to life by Viva Creative, which introduced a series of large-scale murals that add a dynamic visual layer to the rebranding effort. Created by talented local artists, these installations have turned The Square into a permanent, open-air gallery, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and cultural significance. As Morguard, the space’s managing entity, notes, “This reintroduction of The Square signals a long-term investment in public art, placemaking, and community engagement at the heart of the city.”

Morguard further explains, “The new murals at The Square reflect Rockville’s vibrant natural and cultural identity, featuring local flora, fauna, and pollinators—symbols of movement, connection, and life. Like these pollinators, people bring energy to The Square through art, dining, and shared experiences.”

These murals are just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for The Square. Plans are already underway to introduce interactive art, seasonal programs, and community-driven events, all designed to keep The Square active, engaging, and ever-evolving. By fostering an environment of creativity and collaboration, The Square aims to become a cornerstone of cultural expression and community interaction in Rockville.
