The City of Rockville is poised for a significant enhancement to one of its recreational spaces, thanks to Maryland’s Community Parks and Playgrounds program. As part of Governor Wes Moore’s FY 2026 budget, Rockville has been allocated $225,000 for the replacement of the playground at Fallsgrove Park.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize parks and playgrounds across the state, with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources now accepting grant proposals for FY 2027 to continue this vital work.
The Fallsgrove Park project in Rockville will involve replacing outdated playground equipment with new, state-of-the-art installations, alongside the addition of safety surfacing. An ADA-compliant entrance and new benches will also be installed to ensure accessibility and comfort for all visitors. This project is part of a larger commitment to improving community spaces, reflected in the $5 million allocated for 26 projects across 15 counties in the FY 2026 budget.
Maryland’s Community Parks and Playgrounds program, which has already approved over $92 million for more than 880 projects, aims to invest in the future of the state’s established communities. With improvements ranging from new pickleball courts to expanded park facilities, the program seeks to enhance the quality of life for residents by providing safe, modern, and inclusive recreational areas. Town of Midland – Baker Park soccer field lighting upgrade – $75,000
Install new lighting system for the soccer field.
Caroline County
Town of Denton – Sharp Road Park playground – $300,000
Purchase and install playground and safety surfacing for 2 to 5 year olds.
Town of Greensboro – Jesse Sutton Memorial Park improvements – $250,000
Construct a sensory-friendly park, including playground, gardens, picnic tables, and other park amenities.
Carroll County
Town of Hampstead – Main Street Commons Pocket Park – $51,322
Construct a new pocket park, including pavilion, seating, walkways, and associated site amenities.
Town of Manchester – Christmas Tree Park playground and court resurfacing – $175,106
Resurface, restripe and add pickleball court lines on the existing tennis courts, and install new playground safety surfacing.
