Downtown Silver Spring

Tato’s is Now Open, Bringing a Global Twist to Potato-Centric Menu

Cristian Saucedo and Victor Nava, who first crossed paths while working at Maiz64 in DC– Cristian as a chef and Victor as a sommelier– are now the creative forces behind Tato’s, a newly opened potato-centric dining concept in Comma’s Food Hall at Ellsworth Place Mall in Downtown Silver Spring.

The idea for Tato’s was born during a stroll through Ellsworth Place mall, where the duo noticed the upcoming Commas Food Hall at 8661 Colesville Rd. Inspired to embark on a venture of their own, they seized the opportunity to create something unique.

Tato’s, now open during the “super soft opening” phase of Commas Food Hall, offers a diverse menu that reflects the rich tapestry of cultures present in Downtown Silver Spring. Recognizing that fries are a staple of “American street food,” Cristian and Victor sought to infuse their offerings with international flavors to cater to the area’s diverse population.

The journey to opening Tato’s involved a steep learning curve, with Cristian and Victor navigating the complexities of permitting and branding development. Their hard work has culminated in a menu that allows patrons to choose between fries, wedges, and baked potatoes to build their ideal “tato.” Customers can opt for one of Tato’s curated creations inspired by different countries– such as the USA, France, Italy, Mexico, Jamaica, or Japan– or create their own dish using a variety of toppings, including proteins, drizzles, cheeses, and vegetables. For those seeking a healthier option, sweet potatoes and a side of citrus arugula salad are also available.

Tato’s promises to offer a unique, globally-inspired dining experience that celebrates the versatility of the humble potato, making it a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts in Montgomery County and surrounding areas.
