The weather has been scorching with temperatures nearing 100°, but that didn’t stop about 40+ people from lining up outside of Inferno Pizzeria Napoletana in Gaithersburg for a special “Roman pizza pop-up” on Tuesday afternoon (video below).
For those unfamiliar with the restaurant, Chef Tony Conte opened Inferno in October 2015 after spending nine years at DC’s Oval Room. While Inferno specializes in pizza, regulars will tell you that the appetizers are just as enticing.
The restaurant is open four days a week– from Wednesday through Saturday, from 5 pm to 9 pm, or until the dough runs out. Because the dough sometimes runs out early, Inferno highly recommends lining up before the restaurant opens if you’re hoping to secure a seat. At today’s pop-up, customers began lining up at approximately 4:30 to brave the heat for a taste of Conte’s Roman pizza– described as “Thin. Crispy. Roman.”
Our very own “Mr. MoCo” was one of the people who lined up to try the pizza. He shared “We lined up in the shaded on the side of the building. It was hot, but not so bad. The pizza itself was very good, and Inferno isn’t usually open on Tuesdays so it was a fun early-week treat.” Inferno was also ranked #22 in 2024’s ‘50 Top Pizza’ list– a pizza evaluation site in Paestum, Italy, not far from Naples, which is “an independent online guide which evaluates pizzerias with anonymous inspections during which the bill is paid in full.”
