Royal Farms made its Montgomery County debut when it opened its first MoCo location in Gaithersburg in 2022. Now, the convenience store popular for its fried chicken, is making progress at its upcoming location in Silver Spring.
Last year, we reported that Royal Farms is planned for the Sunoco gas station site at 9475 Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring, according to applications filed with the county’s Department of Permitting Services. In October, a permit was issued so that construction can begin at the upcoming location. Now, the exterior frame of the convenience store is up as well as the canopy for the gas pumps.
This will be the first of the “big three” convenience stores (Royal Farms, Sheetz, and Wawa) to open outside of Gaithersburg in Montgomery County. Upcoming Royal Farms locations are also coming to Frederick County– at 6730 English Muffin Way and 5831 Buckeystown Pike. An opening date or timeframe is not yet available for the Silver Spring location.
Royal Farms is best known for its “World-Famous” fried chicken and hand-cut Western Fries. They’ve garnered a significant following, particularly in the Mid-Atlantic states where they primarily operate, with their fried chicken often receiving high praise from publications like Food & Wine. While they also offer other convenience store items, fuel, and a range of fresh food options like sandwiches, breakfast items, and coffee, it’s their fried chicken that truly sets them apart and is what many customers specifically seek out.
