Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration Takes Place July 4th

Rockville’s annual Independence Day Celebration is set to dazzle attendees on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park in King Farm. Known for its excellent spectator viewing and convenient parking options, the park will transform into a festive venue where live music, community greetings, and a spectacular 20-minute fireworks display unite to celebrate the 4th of July in style.

The evening festivities kick off at 7 p.m. with live music performed by Vertigo Red, setting an upbeat and patriotic tone for the celebration. At 8:45 p.m., the Mayor and Council will greet the crowd, ushering in the spirit of community and civic pride. The event continues with a stirring rendition of the National Anthem at 8:55 p.m., followed by additional music from Vertigo Red from 9 to 9:13 p.m. The night culminates with a dazzling fireworks display at 9:15 p.m., lighting up the sky over Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park.

Attendees will benefit from ample free parking available in lots along Shady Grove and Gaither Roads, as well as on Piccard Drive. For the smoothest access, visitors are encouraged to use Route 355, Gude Drive, and Shady Grove Road. Once near the site, follow the event signage rather than relying solely on GPS directions. Accessible parking is provided on a first-come, first-served basis at 2102 Gaither Road for vehicles displaying a valid placard or plate, with access via Shady Grove and Gaither Roads.

Food and beverage vendors will be on site to satisfy every palate. Enjoy Caribbean flavors from Althea’s Almost Famous, cool off with Hawaiian shave ice from Clayboys Shave Ice, or treat yourself to delights from Frosty Softy’s ice cream and smoothies. Carnival-style treats from The Hotdog Hideout, savory options from Pop-up Poutine, international dishes from Rice Around the World, kettle corn from Too Sweet, and a variety of tacos, nachos, quesadillas, mulitas, and burritos from Trippy Tacos ensure there’s something for everyone.

For optimal enjoyment, guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs or blankets to relax and take in the festivities, although chairs and blankets will not be allowed within 100 feet of the stage to protect viewing angles. Prepared food from outside is welcome, and the event promises to proceed rain or shine—with any weather-related changes to be posted on the City of Rockville’s Facebook page and on the event webpage.

In keeping with community standards and safety guidelines, Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park is designated a smoke- and vape-free zone. Pets are discouraged, with the exception of service animals, and visitors should note that no tents, barbecuing, open flames, outside alcohol, or wheeled recreational devices are permitted. The park also enforces restrictions on noisemakers, glass containers, drones, laser pointers, and prohibits weapons, illegal substances, explosives, and projectiles such as footballs or frisbees to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all.

Additionally, please note that several areas within the park, including the dog park, football field, parking lots, and multiple sports courts, will be closed from 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 3 until noon on Saturday, July 5. These closures are designed to facilitate event preparations and ensure crowd safety, and could be subject to change.

Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park promises an unforgettable experience that blends community spirit, live entertainment, and dazzling fireworks. Whether enjoying the captivating performances or savoring the diverse food offerings, attendees can look forward to a night of celebration that unites the community in a shared display of patriotism and joy.
