According to a report by QSR, Wayback Burgers has signed a lease for a new location at 9811 Main Street in Damascus, with an expected opening in late 2025.
The 1,925-square-foot restaurant, owned by first-time franchisee Shahzad Manzoor, will be the brand’s fourth location in Maryland and will feature a dine-in layout with an open kitchen. Wayback serves burgers, hot dogs, fries, chicken sandwiches, milkshakes and salads along with a variety of regional selections.
The restaurant opened its first location in neighboring Delaware back in 1991. It was then known as “Jake’s Hamburgers” before the name changed to “Jake’s Wayback Burgers” in 2010, and dropping the “Jake’s” portion of the name in recent years. Wayback Burgers now has over 150 locations worldwide.
Wayback Burgers was originally slated to open a location in Gaithersburg, with plans first announced in July 2021. The restaurant was set to occupy a space at The Shops of Potomac Valley on Darnestown Road, where signage was installed and initial construction began. Despite early activity, the project faced repeated delays and ultimately never materialized.
