Businessman, philanthropist, and former County Executive candidate David Blair has endorsed Andrew Friedson for Montgomery County Executive. The campaign for Montgomery County Councilmember Andrew Friedson announced today that Blair, who narrowly lost the Democratic nomination in 2018 by 77 votes and again in 2022 by 32 votes– both times to the current County Executive Marc Elrich– has thrown his support behind Friedson.
With current Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich term-limited and unable to seek a third term in 2026, the race for the Democratic nomination is drawing a field of contenders. Those who have already declared their candidacy include real estate investor Mithun Banerjee, current Montgomery County Councilmember (District 1) Andrew Friedson, At-Large Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass, medical assistant and gun safety activist Celeste Iroha, and At-Large Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando.
Per the Friedson campaign’s press release:
Blair, widely respected for his commitment to pragmatic leadership and job growth, cited Friedson’s record of fiscal stewardship and his vision for Montgomery County’s economic future as key reasons for his support.
“Montgomery County needs a leader with the vision to grow our economy and the experience to manage our $7.6 billion budget. At this pivotal moment, we need someone who can turn our shared values into meaningful progress. That leader is Andrew Friedson. I’m proud to enthusiastically endorse him as our next County Executive!” said Blair.
Friedson, who was joined by hundreds of supporters at a campaign kickoff this past weekend, has quickly built a broad coalition of support from leaders across Montgomery County. His campaign is focused on making the county more affordable for families, increasing economic opportunity, and restoring trust in local government through transparency and results-driven leadership.
“I am deeply honored to have David Blair’s endorsement,” said Friedson. “David has been a tireless advocate for economic growth, innovation, and a more effective, inclusive Montgomery County.
David has the business and community perspective we need to build a better future, and I’m grateful to have his support as we work to build on our vision for our county. His endorsement reflects the growing momentum behind our campaign and our shared commitment to making Montgomery County a leader in opportunity, affordability, and good governance.”
Blair’s endorsement adds to Friedson’s growing list of supporters, including leading state senators and community leaders, and underscores the campaign’s commitment to uniting Democrats around a vision of progress and pragmatic problem-solving. He was recently endorsed by Senators Nancy King, Craig Zucker, Sara Love, and Brian Feldman.
