Fire in Gaithersburg Injures Two Firefighters, Displaces Six Families, and Causes $1 Million in Damage

At approximately 10am Tuesday morning, units from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a significant fire at a three-story apartment building located at 746 Quince Orchard Blvd in Gaithersburg.

According to MCFRS Chief spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire originated from accidental causes, specifically from smoking materials igniting a mattress in a bedroom on the top floor.

The fire caused substantial damage, with estimates reaching approximately $1 million. As a result, at least six families have been displaced from their homes. Efforts are underway to provide necessary assistance and support to those affected by the incident.

During the firefighting operation, two firefighters sustained injuries, including one Captain and one Battalion Chief. Both were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries (NLTI), and they are expected to recover.
